Curator’s note

“I am delighted to present New Perspective, an exhibition celebrating the creative legacy of The Conran Shop and proposing an inspiring future for art and design in the UK. It has been a wonderful journey working with creatives from such a diversity of practice and philosophy for this show. Throughout the curation process, I wanted to draw attention to the methods of making, thinking, and conversation that have gone into each individual piece. The idea of function is something I have considered throughout this process, functionality often being delegated to notions of physical usefulness. However, I believe an important aspect of an object’s function is also in its ability to elevate the spirit. Whether playing games across tables, eating from beautiful plates, conversing in our favourite chair, admiring a painting in our living room every morning – these are all qualities that elevate our lives both practically and spiritually. I hope this sentiment is communicated through this exhibition and the fantastic work which constitutes it.”
