The Bird is on the Wing

The Bird is on the Wing is an exhibition celebrating nature’s awakening, offering two distinct yet complementary perspectives on the season’s transformation; one grounded in vibrant growth, and the other a whimsical take on the absurdity of life in bloom. Two worlds collide; rebirth and growth are intertwined with a surreal distortion. Stella and Lydia seek to create an experience that captures the joy and the unexpected beauty of spring. The exhibition is a light-hearted exploration of the absurdity of nature’s rhythms.

The show is inspired by an Irish limerick, taught to Stella by her grandfather, Martin Smith (originally written by Spike Milligan).

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz,
I wonder where the birdies is…
The bird is on the wing, but that’s absurd,
The wing is on the bird.
